So the boys arrived April 19th.

 After settling in we could see they were a mess especially Roni. Roni had fist size ulcer and golf ball size ulcers. Mekki had a bleeding rear stump leg,raw from the bottom where he walks on it. Went straight to vet with them.  The vet looked at them and did bloodwork,fecal checkup and what ever they needed .

Roni had  Audrey in tears as she carried him into the vets office. He is a young guy, almost 1 year old.  I had to find out what happened to him. He was a puppy living on the streets in Egypt. Clearly he was abused. We tried to put a leash on him and he backed away and curled up in the corner, he was afraid of anything that looked like a rope. He was at the sanctuary for 5 months. All the running and as they put it "jumping like a kangaroo" made his butt ulcers get worse and bigger..

After his bloodwork and exam he and Mekki went back to Dharma Rescue as we wait for the next appointment with the board certified surgeon on a plan for their medical future. They both got much needed baths, they were dirty and stinky.

Roni's  wounds are pretty gross and deep. The vets cannot do much as far as amputating his legs until the wounds heal. That is something we are familiar with because of the types of disabled and neglected dogs we take in. So in just  a couple weeks we are getting his wounds to shrink.

Mekki is doing great. Dr. Mike is having fun trying different ways to wrap his stump, since Mekki keeps chewing through the bandages. We need to get the stump completely healed because both vet Dr Mike and Dr Fitch the surgeon think he is a good candidate for a prosthetic leg. He is healthy and has very strong muscle mass in the stumpy leg.  Wouldn't that be cool. With his great sweet personality he may become one of our therapy dogs and not in a wheelchair. Dr. Mike said I better start fund raising because it will be very expensive.

Mekki has to go to the vet every 2 -3 days to have his bandages changed and he loves going there. Instead of like other dogs who run the other way , he hops as fast as he can to get into the clinic. He must like all the attention he gets from the cute vet techs.

Mekki and Rony's Journey started last Thurs when they were put on a plane from Egypt to New York. They will see a whole new world minus the sand and rocks.

This was not an easy task  to get done, not to mention expensive, but they will be here soon and it will have been all worth the trouble for us and them.
