Pee Wee *Adopted!*
Pee Wee was hit by a car and ended up at a local city Animal Shelter. He was paralyzed and the shelter asked if we could take him to our rescue. We said yes, but it was a week before Christmas, so we asked if we could pick him up after Christmas.  On the day before Christmas eve, we got a call that something had happened to Pee Wee. They sent a picture and said he had chewed off half his penis. Most likely because he was bored and could not feel anything below the waist since he was paralyzed. They said if we didn't want to take him they understood, however, we knew if we didn't take him the shelter would euthanize him because of the injury. We said yes to him. We called our vet for Pee Wee to be seen ASAP, and once seen by the vet a specialist was called in to do the surgery on him. Pee Wees's surgery was a success, and around the same time, we had him fitted for his own custom wheelchair! All is well with Pee Wee now and after being a Dharma DAWG for the past 4 years he has finally been adopted! One of our volunteers asked if her family could adopt him. They have since learned how to express him and put his diapers on. He loves his new family and life!!

HUDSON *ADOPTED!*
At 10 weeks old Hudson was hit by a car. He ended up at a local animal shelter but it was not a no kill shelter. The shelter vet performed a  Bilateral Femoral Head Ostectomy.  Shortly after surgery, it was noted that his rear, right leg was not flexible at the stifle or hock.  RADS were submitted to a specialist for review where it was quadriceps contracture that was diagnosed.  Physical therapy on the left leg seem to be progressing but the right leg remained completely ridged. The specialist recommended amputation to the ridged rear leg. Unfortunately Hudson's time at the shelter was up and they had to make room for more dogs being turned into the shelter.

The shelter staff reached out to 100 rescues and contacted us 2 times. The second email said he was going to be euthanized the next day. Knowing his surgery would be expensive and we have a few dogs and cats in medical treatment now, taking him in would be a burden for us but he was so young and we didn't want to see his life end so soon.  We made the decision  to take a chance and give him a second chance. Dharma Rescue takes in mostly disabled and injured dogs and cats and we have high medical bills. We are hoping who ever reads this will give Hudson a second chance and help us raise the money he needs for surgery and rehab. He does have some minor pain issues with the leg that needs to be amputated as it continues to become more ridged. This brave adorable puppy, now almost 4 months old has been through one surgery that wasn't successful and now we can fix him by removing the leg that will never work and hinders his movement.

His journey will not be over after the leg amputation, he will also need therapy at a rehab center  to make sure the other leg has good movement and can hold him up as he gets older. He may also need a hip replacement when he is grown up . We are willing to give him a good life, maybe be in our therapy program and have the hip replacement done when it is time. Hudson is an absolutely sweet , happy, playful pup with a great painless future  for him to look forward too.

PIBBS
Mr. Pibbs was listed as a Yorkie but we believe he is more of a  Yorkie/ Terrier mix. He is a stocky fella. He was at the Long Beach shelter and was confiscated from his owner for cruelty. The shelter took very good care of him and healed his wounds, where the only signs of abuse  are from the scars. He may be smiling in this picture but he was not when we picked him up. He was once again scared about where he was going, the shelter took good care of him and gave him lots of love, he did not know his next chapter in life would be with Dharma Rescue until a forever home is approved for him.

He learns to trust quickly and is such a happy little guy. He has did such a great job in his obedience class that he was awarded first place. He then became part of our DAWGS program and got his certification to become a therapy dog. Pibbs is very laid back and would prefer to be an only child but would not mind being around other dogs (not cats) who are calm and give him his space. We hope to find him a home with someone who can give him lots of love.

COLLIN
This little guy came into the shelter and was going straight to the back to be euthanized. It was this year June, summer time and the shelter was so full because of people turning their pets in , after all it was vacation time. They were under staffed to be able to care for a paralyzed dog in his condition. He was lucky because someone at the shelter asked for a day to network him and hopefully get a rescue to take him. We happen to see the post on him and just asked if he was still there. he was but he needed a rescue to commit to him to save his life. we did. We also did not know what we were getting ourselves into.

We quickly were able to collect the funds for his vet bill ,neutering, teeth cleaning, x ray and wound cleaning. His wounds were worse. Under the dead skin on hisWe quickly were able to collect the funds for his vet bill ,neutering, teeth cleaning, x ray and wound cleaning. His wounds were worse. Under the dead skin on his hocks were bone exposed. So we took him to a specialist to see if the legs could be saved. yes but it would take months of daily wrapping at a vets. Once again we were able to get the funding for his daily wrapping.

It took 2 months of going every day except Sunday  to a vet clinic . There was talk about possible amputation but we were at a great caring clinic. The techs and vets cared very much about giving this guy a second chance for a better life and they were successfully able to heal his wound and the skin grew over his hock bones. Today Colin has a wheelchair and is almost done with his obedience class. he will soon be going for his evaluation to be a therapy dog. He loves children, grown ups, other dogs. he is such a happy boy and will never have to worry about being so neglected ever again. hocks were bone exposed.      FRENCHIE

Frenchie was found by a man on the side of a road and was then taken to a shelter. He was brought to us by another fellow rescuer. His rear end was in very bad shape. He had several wounds on it from scooting around on the streets. It took some time for his wounds to heel but with proper care and a healthy diet he bounced right back. Frenchie is a french bulldog with lots of energy. He is very vocal, friend and affectionate. He's a stocky big guy so you'll defiantly need some muscle in order to care for him. He gets along with other dogs and doesn't mind cats. We hope to find a home with people who are active or have kids to give him lots of attention and play time.

Mavis
Mavis is Tiny but Mighty. She was dumped paralyzed in a field. She was so scared she acted vicious and was almost euthanised at the city shelter. One person who worked at the shelter saved her by working with her and made  her feel safe and her trust again.
She is a sweet little girl who likes to be held and sitting next to or on the lap of a person.
She has a special favorite person at Dharma Rescue so she will have to be adopted by a special person.

She prefers her doggie buggy or doggie sling bag.
