Senior Dogs

Picture
We at Dharma Rescue have always had a special place in our hearts for seniors and special needs dogs and cats. We see the wisdom, courage, and unconditional love they give despite the difficulties some of them have gone through. We provide a safe place for them and hope to find  them forever homes. For those who cannot be placed in homes we keep and give them all the love they need, we are their forever home.

LOVEY
Hello sweeties. My name is Lovey. I am about 4 yrs old . I am from San Diego Ca.  My family down there got me when I was a puppy. I was a friendly fun loving dog until one day I saw my neighbors big dog outside. I wasn't on a leash and neither was he. I went over to say hi but he wasn't very friendly and grabbed me and well I won't continue because it was ugly.  After being in the emergency hospital I went home to heal and could but a month later my back legs didn't work. So back the vet but they could not see anything wrong.  My mom tried for a year to take care of me but she was also pregnant and was having a hard time caring for me. Her family pressured her to get rid of me. She didn't want to take me to the animal shelter so she decided to have me euthanized by a vet. The vet didn't want her to euthanize me so he suggested she call a rescue. She called rescues in her area and  all the way up to LA. It was another rescue in LA that called Dharma Rescue and gave them her number in case they could take me in. After taking to my mom and she told them how hard this was they agreed to take me into their rescue.

My life has been very busy. I went through obedience and did okay. You know I am a princess so who needs that kind of training, besides I had first place scores. But because Dharma rescue dogs were getting so many first places I didn't get my ribbon because it went to another not Dharma rescue dog. That's okay I know how perfect I am and pretty. But don't let my looks fool you. In the DAWGS Drag Racing my rescue does, I beat the boys so I am the Princess Warrior aka Terminator aka Lovey Gaga. I like having fun, coloring my hair, wearing pretty clothes and I love being fussed over. I get all the attention and why not I deserve it.
Dolly
Hi, I'm Dolly and I am 10 years old. I am so Glad Dharma Rescue was ready to take in another paralyzed dog and they came to PCC clinic, a non profit clinic the serves rescues. They knew there were 4 paralyzed dogs in the clinic so they came to meet them. They were told to please meet me first because I had been living there for 2 years.

My family didn't want me because I injured my back and couldn't walk so they gave me to the clinic. Before even meeting me the lady's from Dharma Rescue said we will take her and of course behind me sticking her head in the door was Una aka Boxer Girl. So they took her too because I guess they love boxers. I just cannot get away from that big clumsy old boxer. Dolly has become a certified Therapy Dog and passed her test to become a LAX pup dog.

Courage

He manged to live crawling around on the streets with a mouth full of infected teeth and made it this far. He dodged the euthanasia bullet because the first rescue that got him was going to euthanise him until another rescuer stepped in and said no and asked if we could take him, he was suppose to be *just* paralyzed not completely crippled. he was here in LA for a month dragging around in someones yard before the decision was made to put him down.

He is the sweetest little guy. He is not incontinent which is wonderful if you are changing diapers all day long. When we set him on a pee pad and say got pee pee he pee's and then he poops. I am so grateful to him for being able to do that, and he does not soil his bed he waits to be taken to the pad. Little things like that makes us very happy. We are committed to giving him a good life to make up for the shit life he has had. I just cannot even imagine what he has been through and he is not bitter or angry, just happy to have a bead, food, here kind words and be safe. If his tail wasn't broken I am sure he would be wagging it.
Update
Courage came to us March 2018 about 4 years ago.  When he arrived here we took him to specialist to find out what was wrong with his body. Last specialist he went to was at UC Davis. was diagnosed with Polyarthropathy  in his joints and Lymphoma. When we got his diagnose we decided to keep him and care for him for the rest of his life. We did not think he was going to live for 4 yrs ,and who knows how many more years. We car committed to give him the best care and life .
