raising funds for kenzies eye

Five-month-old Kenzie was in a city shelter. Animal control had picked her up from the streets. She was thin, had 2 big cherry eyes, and had a severe case of demodex mange. She needed to get out of the shelter before she would be euthanized.
You can only guess what kind of life she was living in her 5 months on this earth. In April we were sent a picture and asked if we could take her, we had to say yes. Once she was in our care, her healing journey started. Before she even came home to the Dharma Rescue she had an appointment with the vet. Kenzie had an exam, skin scraping and bloodwork done, when we got the results we were told we could not have a cherry eye surgery until she was healthy.
It has now been 3 months and my Kenzie is a happy, bouncy mastiff puppy weighing 60+ pounds! Yes, she is a big girl!
Our vet had her on eye meds because there seemed to be a white spot behind her left cherry eye. We already had the estimate done for her cherry eye surgery, which came out to $1700.
When we took her back for another examination, since she was healthy enough at that point, our vet looked very concerned because the ulcer in her eye did not heal, but was in fact raised more. The vet said he needed to take a culture.
A few days later the results came back and we learned Kenzie had 3 nasty different types of bacteria on that eye which is why the raised spot didn't heal properly. She is now on antibiotics, one for each bacteria. We now must wait for a couple weeks to see it the meds work. Overall, that bill was $600...
Can you imagine what life is like when you are born only able to see through the side of your eyes? You cannot see straight ahead.
How exciting it will be to watch her see all the world in front of her.❤️ Kenzie has some behavioral issues which are probably because of her handicap, however we are in the process of helping and training her.

finns 1st swimming lesson!

After receiving all the necessary vaccinations, Finn finally went for his first swimming lesson! He did a wonderful job and he didn't need to wear a body vest! Finn swims like a little guppy💙He was very motivated and has learned to swim towards the treats.
Swimming is going to strengthen his leg that has the plate, and overall is going to help him walk and feel better. Our hope is that with the water therapy Finn will be able to soon walk normally.
If anyone would like to donate to Finns swimming lessons we would appreciate it so much, each session he attends is $45. The more time he can spend in the water the better, however as of right now we are hoping that we will be able to take Finn swimming once a week:)

On Christmas Eve we got a call from an organization we work with and they said they had a cat that was at their vet office with a mass on his bladder. They were worried that he might be alone for a few days because the clinic was closed and that he would have to die alone. The organization asked if we could take him to our rescue so he would have a comfortable place to die, and so we said okay as a Christmas gift to him. Two weeks later he was still with us and we decided to take him to the vet to get an x-ray, once the results came back they showed that his bladder issue was gone and so we brought him back to our rescue. As time went on Tommy started getting better and healthier. However, after a few months, he again started to get infections, so we took him to the vet and they ran an ultrasound and some tests to find out that he has “idiopathic sterile cystitis”. Unfortunately, there is no cure or medication for his diagnosis, although we are now working with a holistic homeopathic vet to help control and manage his bladder infections. Tommy is a very friendly, chill, and sweet little boy who hopefully one day will find a perfect home.

Kenny is a sweet, fun, and loving male 2 year old cat. When Kenny originally went into a shelter he had a serious injury so an outside organization decided to take him to a clinic where they decided to do surgery on his leg and remove his tail, he also needed hip surgery but the they didnt choose to do it. After the removal of Kennys tail he became incontinent and the shelter didnt know what to do with him. Eventually the shelter decided they were going to euthanize him. We were however, asked if we would take in Kenny and of course we did!Kenny is now better besides having to be expressed. He is a typical cat, he just doesnt have a tail. He is fairly easy to express and doesnt need a litter box or a diaper if expressed properly. He loves to play and gets along well with other cats.

Kenzie is a 50 pound 6 month old puppy. She was found on the streets and picked up by animal control. When we got her they said she was a boxer mix and 10 months old. When we rescued her we decided to take her in and she had two cherry eyes, one in both eyes, and she also had mange. We decided to take her into our rescue and later learned that she was actually 5 months old at that time and a mastiff puppy. Her mange is now gone and her beautiful hair is growing back quickly. She will soon be having cherry eye surgery on both eyes. Kenzie does need a lot of behavioral training, so she will be soon going through her 9 weeks of obedience training once she has had her eye surgery. Once trained she will be ready for adoption! She is very smart and sweet however, is a crazy puppy right now in need of some training. Once she gets the proper training she needs she will make a beautiful companion! 🤍

We are super excited to share that Hudson was adopted out to a wonderful family, and now has the best home! His owners are lovely people, and have already gotten him used to being spoiled ;). Hudsons new family loves him and his personality very much. In the words of his new parents, he is a"good-boy", loyal, and precious. We couldn't have asked for a better outcome and adoption story for this sweet boy.❤️
