Lovey Hello sweeties. My name is Lovey. I am about 4 yrs old . I am from San Diego Ca. My family down there got me when I was a puppy. I was a friendly fun loving dog until one day I saw my neighbors big dog outside. I wasn't on a leash and neither was he. I went over to say hi but he wasn't very friendly and grabbed me and well I won't continue because it was ugly. After being in the emergency hospital I went home to heal and could but a month later my back legs didn't work. So back the vet but they could not see anything wrong. My mom tried for a year to take care of me but she was also pregnant and was having a hard time caring for me. Her family pressured her to get rid of me. She didn't want to take me to the animal shelter so she decided to have me euthanized by a vet. The vet didn't want her to euthanize me so he suggested she call a rescue. She called rescues in her area and all the way up to LA. It was another rescue in LA that called Dharma Rescue and gave them her number in case they could take me in. After taking to my mom and she told them how hard this was they agreed to take me into their rescue.
My life has been very busy. I went through obedience and did ok. You know I am a princess so who needs that kind of training, besides I had first place scores. But because Dharma rescue dogs were getting so many first places I didn't get my ribbon because it went to another not Dharma rescue dog. Thats ok I know how perfect I am and pretty. But don't let my looks fool you. In the DAWGS Drag Racing my rescue does, I beat the boys so I am the Princess Warrior aka Terminator aka Lovey Gaga. I like having fun, coloring my hair , wearing pretty clothes and I love being fussed over. I get all the attention and why not I deserve it.
Pee-Wee Pee-Wee aka shelter name Sneakers. We were called by the Animal shelter if we could take in a little dog that was hit by a car and his back was severed. We said yes but we couldn't take him in for a couple weeks. They said they would hold him for us. For some reason 4 day before we were suppose to pick him up he chewed off half his penis. Shockingly no one at the shelter ever experienced this nor us. They rushed him to the emergency clinic and called us. We were told if we didn't want him because of what he did to himself they would understand. We were looking at a very expensive emergency surgery by a specialist to fix what he did. We knew if we said we couldn't take him he would be euthanized. So we picked him up and took him straight to the vet, where he was stabilized until the specialist arrived.
We quickly started doing fundraising and thanks to generous donations and lifeline4paws we raised the $2800. Dr Fitch did not have to amputated his penis he was able to save it.
Presley Poor Presley. Life has given him a bad deck of cards but not anymore. Before we picked him up this is the story we were told. He was hit by a car and at the shelter. When his family was contacted they didn't have money for his surgery so a charity paid for his surgery for his broken back. he had a plate put in his back. Sadly his family did not want him because he was paralyzed. So he stayed at the clinic that did the surgery waiting for a rescue to take him. he was at the clinic for a very, very long time ,months and months. This was not the real story. We soon found out he had trust issues and tried to bite people and other dogs. After tracking down the organization that paid for his surgery we learned the real story about his life.
Presley was a feral street dog. He lived on the streets of the worst part of LA. The people in his neighborhood fed him and tried to catch him or gain his trust. They named him Cry Baby because he didn't bark but cried like a baby. One day he was hit by a car. A woman who lived there saw him get hit and she stared calling for help. An organization that helps low income families keep their pets by paying for medical and food told her they would pay for his surgery if she would commit to keeping him at her home they would provide food and what ever he needed. She said yes. After the surgery they called and told her he was paralyzed, she never came back for him and never answered her phone. She didn't want a paralyzed dog and probably one she didn't know. So he stayed at the clinic for along time.
Like little Pee Wee we were asked if we could take him into our rescue and like Pee Wee we asked for time to pick him up. By the time we were ready for him he had already been taken by another rescue and returned after a few days. The rescues vet suggested he be euthanized because he was not well and a screw had come out of the plate and traveled from his back down to the bottom of his chest. It made him very sick. It was a good thing the other rescue had x rays. blood work done on him which revealed the screw and why he was so sick.
When we said we would take him he was not put down. Unfortunately he has trust issues and fears. We believe every dog , every living thing deserves a chance to fight to live and have a good life. Presley has been trying to trust and is getting better as his health improves. More updates later. he has a new doo too. we are raising funds to have his back surgery corrected. We believe he is uncomfortably with the loose plate in his back.
Colin This little guy came into the shelter and was going straight to the back to be euthanized. It was this year June, summer time and the shelter was so full because of people turning their pets in , after all it was vacation time. They were under staffed to be able to care for a paralyzed dog in his condition. He was lucky because someone at the shelter asked for a day to network him and hopefully get a rescue to take him. We happen to see the post on him and just asked if he was still there. he was but he needed a rescue to commit to him to save his life. we did. We also did not know what we were getting ourselves into.
We quickly were able to collect the funds for his vet bill ,neutering, teeth cleaning, x ray and wound cleaning. His wounds were worse. Under the dead skin on hisWe quickly were able to collect the funds for his vet bill ,neutering, teeth cleaning, x ray and wound cleaning. His wounds were worse. Under the dead skin on his hocks were bone exposed. So we took him to a specialist to see if the legs could be saved. yes but it would take months of daily wrapping at a vets. Once again we were able to get the funding for his daily wrapping.
Mr. Pibs Mr. Pibs is 4 yrs old. He was listed as a yorkie but we believe he is more of a Yorkie/ Terrier mix. He is a stocky fella and has a lot of mischievous energy. He was at the Long Beach shelter and was confiscated from his owner for cruelty. The shelter took very good care of him and healed his wounds, where the only signs of abuse are from the scars. He may be smiling in this picture but he was not when we picked him up. he was once again scared about where he was going, the shelter took good care of him and gave him lots of love, he did not know his next chapter in life would be with Dharma Rescue until a forever home is approved for him. He learns to trust quickly and is such a happy little guy, Bubbly like the the root beer Pibs. For now he will be taking obedience class and hopefully join the DAWGS program. With his energy he needs to be kept busy.
Mr. Pibs got first place in obedience and has become a certified Therapy Dog and passed his test to be a LAX Pup dog.
It took 2 months of going every day except Sunday to a vet clinic . There was talk about possible amputation but we were at a great caring clinic. The techs and vets cared very much about giving this guy a second chance for a better life and they were successfully able to heal his wound and the skin grew over his hock bones. Today Colin has a wheelchair and is almost done with his obedience class. he will soon be going for his evaluation to be a therapy dog. He loves children, grown ups, other dogs. he is such a happy boy and will never have to worry about being so neglected ever again. hocks were bone exposed. So we took him to a specialist to see if the legs could be saved. yes but it would take months of daily wrapping at a vets. Once again we were able to get the funding for his daily wrapping.
