Her family could not keep her so they were going to take her to the local animal shelter. Whe we got her from the shlter she was very matted and had hotspot on her skin under the matts. After a good shaving and bath Princess started to look like a princess.

This is the story of the cat from Istanbul. His name is Sansli, it means [...]

This is the story of the cat from Istanbul. His name is Sansli, it means Lucky in Turkish. He wasn’t very lucky until he met his angels. He was living on the streets of Istanbul when his life changed.
Bystanders said Sansli was attacked by a dog, ran into a busy street and was hit by a car.
His first angel, rushed him to a vet for medical help, but she didn’t have money to pay the medical bills, she sent emails to everybody she knew to get help paying for the medical bills and also hoping someone would adopt him. Since they don’t euthanize animals in Turkey Sansli would have had to be returned to the streets in Istanbul, blind and paralyzed.
When a friend of the friend in the U.S. another angel saw the pictures of Sansli, she couldn’t think of anything other than helping him.
She told the friend to keep him in the hospital until he gets better, She would take care of the medical bills . She contacted her animal lover friends in California. She asked if they knew anyone who could adopt Sansli. They had friends at Dharma Rescue and asked if we could take him in.
Sansli was in the Turkish hospital for 3 months, his legs got better and he started to walk. When he was better they paid a family to keep him until arrangements could be made for Sansli’s flight to the U.S. It took a few month’s but he eventually made the 19 hour flight to Los Angeles
Sansli is living with Dharma Rescue now,he has been to the vet. He had ulcers in his eye’s. He needs to go to a eye specialist. Donations are needed to take him to a specialist.

Update on Sansli.

Sansli has been to the eye specialist.Sansli has feline herpes virus in his eyes. 80% of cats carry the virus and stress and illness cause flair ups. Sadly Sansli had stress and illness growing up on the streets of Turkey. Sadly for us he needs two surgeries the first is for Corneal Sequestrum and will cost $3500.00, He will need a second surgey after he heals from the first which will cost a little less then the first no estimate until he has his first surgery. What Sansli has is very painful. Unfortunately we do not have the funds for this surgery.

A promise was made to our rescue by the California people if we took Sansli in his boarding fee’s,food and medical bills would be paid for while we tried to find a home for him. That promise was not kept so we are left taking care of him. Also Sansli was a tom cat for many years and sprays so he is not adoptable,he cannot even be an outdoor cat because of his eyes. So he will ore then likely be a permanent resident of Dharma Rescue.

Right now he is on medications to control the ulcers in his eye’s while we try to raise the funds for his first surgery.

Donations are needed and greatly appreciated for Sansli to have his surgery.

Bette passed Sunday evening. Very soon after I spoke to you. She went in peace with no distress. She was only sick Friday & much worse and on a down hill slide on Saturday and Sunday it was time to say good-bye. I am so happy she was part of the Hopp family for a short time and that you had the joy of her in your home. She was a love & is missed. Marlene

We love you Bette. You were the best dog to have in our Dharma Rescue home. You were quiet, sweet, happy. Two of your favorite things were food and belly rubs. You came to us from the streets a dirty, scared old lady. We guessed how old you were 10 years is always a good number but you could have been older. You were so good and when someone wanted to adopt you we were hesitant to give you up. But we are a rescue and if a perfect home came around we knew we had to let you go and love someone else so we could bring in another senior homeless dog.
Goodbye old loyal friend. We will always miss your smiling face.

I am Mickey. I am a 10 year old Shar Pei Chow mix. I am a cute looking fellow. I look like one of the Jamboree Bears at Disneyland. My sister and I were left at a shelter. The volunteers at the shelter were very caring and after my sister was adopted they tried to fill in the lonely gap. I was getting sick all the time . Being old and sick meant my time was coming up. I would have to leave the shelter with wings on. The volunteers put a plea out to thier rescue group connection, they even raised donations for me hoping a rescue would take me. Dharma Rescue had adopted a senior dog and were ready to fill the space so they decided to rescue me after I passed the cat test,Yes I like cats. I was in and out of the shelter medical ward for a month. The shelter released me as well. I was not well. My rescuers knew something was wrong so to their vet I went for a bunch of test, xrays, blood work, thyroid check, ultrasound you name it I got it. The vet said I was very sick and my kidneys were failing. I certainly did not feel good, kind of walked slow like I was in a fog,I guess I was dying. My rescue decided I survived this long and they would have the expensive surgery done hoping my kidneys would bounce back. I had 20 stones in my bladder and 8 up my damaged urethra. The vet had to do a ureterostomy. After 5 days at the vet for recovery I finally went to my Dharma Rescue home. I had so much energy and was smiling I felt great. My kidneys bounced back to normal levels, my liver, prostrate recovered. I am a happy boy. The vet said I was suffering for about 6 months. Thank you volunteers,Dharmarescue and my new vets for giving me a second chance to live. I maybe 10 but I act like I am 5. I am still healing and the uretrostomy makes me leak but my rescue is having some special belly band made for me. I love being in the house and having my own soft bed and my delicious raw food diet. I get better everyday so we hope in time I will not need my belly band. I am a smart good boy and if you are looking for a pal to hang out with that would be me, Mickey.

While scanning the kill shelters there was a big dog posted that was 17 years old. It was so wrong that a 17 year old dog had to live out the rest of it’s life on a cold cement slab waiting to be euthanized. We got her out immediately which was the day before she was going to be killed. She went straight to our vet clinic . The old girl could hardly walk and had to be carried into the vets office. They did blood work and if it was bad we would be by her side and have her put down humanely with people around her who cared. Her blood work was normal and after staying at the vets overnight for observation the vets conclusion was she was emaciated, somebody did not bother to feed her or clean her or speak some kind words to her.

How did she end up in a high kill shelter. The shelter said they got a call for a dog pickup and when the officer got there he saw an old dog they wanted taken away to be put down. Even the animal control officer had some compassion and suggested they have their vet do it, but they said no. He let them know she would be on a cold cement floor for a week before she was euthanized, they still wanted him to take her away.

There are many invisible Missy’s out there and so many are not lucky. They gave companionship, loyalty and love to someone and deserve a better way to live out their senior life.

Missy is doing great. She sleeps, eats and loves to be petted. She is incontinent but does get up to got outside and do her business. Maybe she is not as easy to care for like a younger dog but she is quiet, easy going and loving. Who knows how long she will be on this earth with us. it doesn’t matter how long what matters is she is happy and comfortable.

I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man. Mahatma Gandhi

She was relinquished to Dharma Rescue because she was not in good health. She was on poor quality food and threw up all the time. It took over one year to get her back into health on a raw food diet and to stop her daily vomiting. Now she is like any other cat and only has an occasionally hair ball (help to minimize this with daily brushing). Due to her delicate constitution, Cleo must go to a home that offers a raw food diet.

I may have been born June 2010 because I am still a pup. My name should be Flyer because I can jump and fly through the air, even with one eye. I am just a happy guy now. I was picked up from the streets by the shelter. My eye was injured and because it was so long before it was looked the vet had to remove it. I was very scared at the shelter and was there for a long time ,just not getting looked at by families . Maybe because I just kept to myself. but when Dharma Rescue saw my picture on a list sent to rescues because ourtime was almost up they decided to take me into their rescue. They saw something under the scared mop of hair I guess. I was scared of the other dogs and cats but guess what I learned they are not bad and now they are my friends, everyone is my friend,I love to play and I want my future family to get me lots of toys because pups like me like to chew. They say I will grow out of it but for now it is fun. So if you like bouncy pups and walks I am your guy. You will have to work on my potty training. I am getting better but because I like to play so much sometimes I forget.
